SRCE: Anniversary of beatings is an indictment, remembering is a matter of survival

The Serbia Center Party declared that the anniversary of the brutal beating of citizens is an open indictment, not a commemorative event or a reason for formal statements. The party's Valjevo committee stated that the masks were intentionally removed on that day to clearly show who wielded the batons and who had to bow their heads. They described the street violence as an undisguised demonstration of force, a message sent to the entire city that resistance comes at a price of blood and bruises. The committee criticized the subsequent institutional response, noting that the silence of the prosecution, the blindness of the police inspectorate, and the cynical remarks of the authorities turned the crime into a state project to protect assailants. They asserted that the message was clear: a uniform guarantees immunity, and civil rights are measured by how much beating citizens can endure. The party warned that sweeping this day under the rug is an act of complicity. They argued that anyone calling for "calming passions" and "forgetting" is actually asking people to accept the status of cheap labor and silent observers in their own city. The Valjevo committee concluded that Valjevo must not "forgive and forget" because forgiveness is not granted to those who do not repent, nor is something forgotten that could happen again tonight. They stressed that remembering this day is not a matter of politics but of sheer survival and basic dignity.
