Sri Lanka Allocates 45 Billion Rupees to Complete Stalled Hospital Projects, Opens Renovated Units at Nagoda Teaching Hospital

Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa officially opened renovated units and enhanced infrastructure at Nagoda Teaching Hospital in Kalutara on August 16, 2026. The upgrades aim to deliver higher quality, more efficient, and comfortable healthcare services to patients, while also strengthening the hospital's capacity.

The development and renovation efforts, valued at over 134 million Sri Lankan rupees from the Ministry of Health and Media, included the modernization of several patient care units. These include the outpatient department, main pharmacy, clinics, corridors leading to wards, wards 21 and 22, the health education and public health services building, and the psychiatric treatment ward. Additionally, the minister opened a newly constructed minor staff control office and oversaw the renovation of the doctors' quarters, nurses' rest room, and junior staff rest room.

By efficiently spending state funds in the Treasury with proper management and identification of priorities, we have been able to recruit the human resources needed for the health service.

Minister Jayatissa highlighted that effective management of state funds has enabled the recruitment of necessary human resources for the health service. He also announced that the government is taking steps to complete stalled hospital construction projects within the next two years, allocating 45 billion rupees for this purpose.
