Stairwell cleaning frequency increases amid rising resident expectations

The demand for cleaner common areas in apartment buildings is rising, with residents increasingly seeking more frequent stairwell cleaning services. While cleaning once a week was the norm, a growing number of residents now expect their stairwells to be cleaned twice a week or even more often.

If hundreds of people pass through the stairwell per day, it is natural that dirt accumulates much faster. In such cases, even cleaning performed to a high standard will not ensure that the stairwell looks the same six or seven days later. This is not a sign of poorly done work – it's just that in intensively used areas, cleanliness lasts for a shorter time.

Neilas Čijunskas, head of the cleaning department at "Mano BŪSTO," explained that the intensity of use significantly impacts how quickly dirt accumulates. In buildings with hundreds of daily visitors, weekly cleaning may not suffice to maintain a consistently clean appearance. He noted a shift in resident attitudes, with a greater emphasis on the quality of their living environment. "There was a time when apartment building residents cleaned their own stairwells," Čijunskas said. "Then a significant change occurred – today, 9 out of 10 stairwells are maintained by professional cleaners. Now we are seeing another trend – the traditional once-a-week cleaning is increasingly being replaced by the need to clean more often."

This trend is reflected in the data, with 38% of stairwells managed by "Mano BŪSTO" now cleaned twice or more per week. Čijunskas added that the methods of cleaning are also evolving, with residents seeking more effective solutions, especially in newer buildings. Professional stairwell vacuuming, introduced by "Mano BŪSTAS" two years ago, has proven up to four times more effective than dry sweeping. This method captures dirt and allergens more efficiently, improving both floor cleanliness and indoor air quality. Currently, 250 apartment building stairwells have opted for this additional service.

Using a professional vacuum cleaner, it is possible to reach hard-to-reach places and collect dirt without lifting it into the air. When sweeping, some dust is merely moved from one place to another, while vacuuming removes it. This helps reduce the amount of dust, allergens, pet hair, dust mites, and other fine particles, thereby improving not only the cleanliness of the floors but also the quality of the indoor air.
