Store robbed near San Antonio police station as suspected perpetrator is arrested

A store in San Antonio was robbed just a few meters from the 24th Police Station, and police later arrested a suspected perpetrator identified through the shop’s security cameras.

The business sells mobile phones, accessories, prepaid services and payment services. Police identified the suspect as 22-year-old José Daniel García Estigarribia, who was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Deputy Commissioner José Pinto said the young man allegedly arrived in a white car.

The robbery took place at about 6:30 p.m. The owner, Bruno Barquinero, said the vehicle had been parked outside the store since around 5:15 p.m., more than an hour before the robbery. Barquinero was not at the premises when the crime occurred. After his secretary called to tell him about the robbery, he reviewed the security footage and noticed a white Fun Cargo that had previously been seen near the business.

The footage also indicated that the same vehicle had allegedly been used on Sept. 3, according to the complaint. The store’s representatives gave police the identity of the person they believed was involved. Police seized the vehicle used in the robbery.

Barquinero said he knew the suspect and knew his girlfriend and father-in-law. He said they used to greet each other, and that he initially did not believe the suspect could be responsible. Pinto said the victim fully identified García Estigarribia through the footage. The suspect eventually went to the store on his own and was arrested.
