Storms wreak havoc in Vilnius – latest information from firefighters

A powerful storm struck Vilnius and its surrounding areas on Saturday evening, leaving a trail of destruction. Firefighters were kept busy throughout the night, responding to 34 calls to clear fallen trees and address damage caused by the severe weather.

The storm's impact was most pronounced in Vilnius, where 27 incidents were reported. One tree fell onto a building, and another landed on power lines, disrupting essential services. On Jozef Puslie Street, a section of bitumen roofing dangerously dangled from a two-story cottage. Rescuers had to remove part of the roof covering to partially clear the entrance.

Three residents, including a 6-year-old girl, were evacuated from the affected cottage. They have been temporarily accommodated in a hotel on Žemaitė Street. Firefighters also assisted in evacuating personal belongings from the property. The storm also damaged two vehicles, a BMW 320 GT and a Nissan Juke.

In Avižieniai, on Sudervė Street, a tree fell onto the roof of a three-story house. Firefighters cordoned off the area with caution tape, as the tree had not fully collapsed, leaving the municipality to handle the further cleanup. Initial reports indicate that no one was physically injured during the storm.

Since the tree had not fallen completely, only tilted, firefighters cordoned off the area with a stop tape, and the municipality will handle the rest.
