Strike on vessel in Caspian Sea: Iran demands compensation from Ukraine

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran is demanding financial compensation from Kyiv for the damage inflicted upon an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea. Diplomatic tensions between the two nations have intensified following a drone attack on a commercial ship on July 25.

According to the Iranian side, the attack resulted in the death of one crew member and injuries to two others. Following the incident, Iran issued threats of missile strikes against Ukrainian territory, asserting that the event constitutes a violation of Article 2 of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force in international relations.

In response to the incident, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga held telephone negotiations with his Iranian counterpart. During the conversation, the Ukrainian diplomat assured that his country's defense actions are solely focused on countering military logistics and supplies, and that the targeting of a civilian object was not intended.
