Strong winds damage roads, homes and vehicles in Panama’s Chiriquí and Ngäbe-Buglé region

Strong winds and recent rains left 29 reported impacts across Panama’s Chiriquí province and the Ngäbe-Buglé region, including blocked roads, damaged structures and detached roofs.

The National Civil Protection System, known as Sinaproc, said the preliminary tally included 17 obstructed roads, nine affected structures and three roof sections torn away. Fallen trees caused most of the reports, disrupting traffic on main and secondary roads.

The affected areas include the districts of Remedios, San Félix, David, Alanje and Bugaba, as well as the border area of San Isidro and two points in Ngäbe-Buglé. Response teams are removing trees and clearing roads to restore circulation and reduce risks to drivers and pedestrians.

In David district, officials reported nine cases of trees falling onto homes, vehicles, parking areas and perimeter fences. The affected sectors included Los Abanicos, San Cristóbal, San José, Pedregal, El Alba and La Juventud. Roof damage was reported in Siogui and La Estrella in Bugaba, and in Quebrada de Loro in Ngäbe-Buglé.

Sinaproc staff, technical personnel and volunteers are coordinating damage assessments and recovery work with firefighters. Authorities urged residents to avoid damaged trees, structures and power lines, remain in safe places during strong winds, stay away from windows and keep clear of objects that could fall.
