Student allegedly beaten and scalded after being mistaken for mugger in Karawang

A 17-year-old student from an Islamic boarding school in Karawang, West Java, is reportedly the victim of a severe assault, including being scalded with hot water. The incident allegedly took place after the student, identified by the initials AM, fell from his motorcycle and was subsequently accused of being a mugger by a local resident.

The alleged assault occurred on Friday, July 31, around 11:30 p.m. on Jalan Cilutung in Desa Kertamulya, Pedes District. According to police, AM had been attending a religious event and was on his way home when he fell off his motorbike on a dark and deserted road. Fearing the situation, he abandoned his motorcycle and fled on foot.

While returning home, the victim, feeling scared on the dark and deserted road, fell from his motorcycle and then ran away, leaving his motorcycle behind.

Shortly after, a local resident, reportedly a security guard, approached AM. The student was then allegedly accused of being a mugger and subjected to physical violence, including being scalded with hot water. The Karawang Police are currently investigating the alleged criminal acts of violence and identifying the individual(s) responsible for scalding the student.

As a result of the incident, AM sustained serious burns to his abdomen, hands, and right leg. He was taken to RS Proklamation Rengasdengklok on Saturday, August 1, for medical treatment. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
