Student conveys farmers' needs, receives hand tractor from Minister

During a public address at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Sultan Amai Gorontalo, a student named Husna Rupu seized an opportunity to voice the concerns of farmers from her hometown. Representing the agricultural community of western Gorontalo, she appealed to the Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, for essential farming equipment to boost productivity.

Husna explained that approximately five hectares of rice fields required support in the form of machinery for optimal management and increased farmer yields. She emphasized that despite Gorontalo being a focus area for agricultural development, farmers in the western region still faced challenges and lacked the necessary tools.

Mr. Minister of Agriculture, I, as a student from the western region of Gorontalo, convey the aspirations of farmers entrusted to me. Gorontalo is indeed a PENAS location, but the farmers in the western part of Gorontalo are not yet prosperous. The rice farming community has mandated me to convey their aspirations to you, Mr. Minister, and ask for concrete solutions.

Minister Amran responded decisively to the student's plea. He immediately instructed his staff to provide one unit of a hand tractor to the farmer group represented by Husna. The Minister stressed the importance of providing such support as a matter of justice and to ensure tangible benefits for the farming community.

This is requested for only five hectares. Give one hand tractor now. You take it home. Bring it to the farmers. Take that hand tractor home from the Minister. Cultivate it. This is justice. Because building the archipelago is not easy. Shouting is easy. Do you want to help farmers or argue? Now take that hand tractor home and give it to the farmers.

Amran lauded Husna's courage and idealism in advocating for the farmers, highlighting the role of students as vital conduits for public concerns and as agents of positive change. He expressed pride in her efforts to champion the interests of ordinary people rather than focusing solely on personal gain.

Demonstrating swift action, the promised hand tractor was dispatched shortly after the dialogue. It embarked on a six-hour journey from Gorontalo City and arrived in Desa Molosipat Utara, Kecamatan Popayato Barat, Kabupaten Pohuwato, around 2:00 AM on Sunday, June 21, 2026, directly reaching the farmers who needed it.
