Student parliament elections announced at Novi Sad's Faculty of Philosophy

Elections for the student parliament at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, Serbia, are scheduled for September 14, announced the "GLAS" student organization. The organization is actively encouraging students to participate in the elections for both the faculty's parliament and the broader University of Novi Sad student parliament.

A political thug named said to be working for APC and his team were at the motorpark in Ikire around Naira and Kobo area in Ikire when some political thugs from Accord stormed the area around 10:30am to take over the place.

The voting will take place from 8 am to 4 pm in classroom 101 at the Faculty of Philosophy. The deadline for announcing these elections was April 10, but only a few faculties within the University of Novi Sad, including Medicine, Law, and Natural Sciences and Mathematics, managed to hold their elections on time. Notably, independent student lists, often referred to as "students in blockade," won in those earlier elections.

During the melee, a new Toyota Hilux donated to Ikire Divisional Police Station was damaged. The windscreen was smashed and the tyres damaged.

GLAS is urging fellow students to show their support for the "students in blockade" list by signing petitions. They have until September 3 to gather around 500 signatures, which represents 10% of the faculty's current student body of 4,807. To provide their support, students must obtain two signature forms from the Election Commission and present their student identification, such as an index, library card, or cafeteria card.

The Accord Party members were trying to take over the park from those of the APC extraction, and during the mayhem, an Accord member was shot.

Past student elections have not been without incident. The previous elections for the student parliament were held on September 23, 2024, at the Rectorate building. During those elections, students from the STAV organization were reportedly attacked by individuals dressed in black and wearing masks, resulting in injuries to Mila Pajić, Anja Pitulić, and Srđan Đurić. Elections for the University of Novi Sad student parliament, to which the Faculty of Philosophy contributes three members, are also underway, having been announced on August 20.

During the meeting at the palace, police claimed that the Accord members abducted the Secretary of Palm Oil Seller Association in Ikire and it was while chasing the kidnappers that an exchange of fire occurred and in the process, a stray bullet hit one person.
