Student's death: Police arrest mother's boyfriend

Kuala Lumpur police have detained the boyfriend of a 14-year-old female student who passed away during emergency treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital on August 18. The 51-year-old man was arrested to aid in the ongoing investigation into the teenager's death.

Further investigation into the case has uncovered allegations that the suspect may have sexually harassed the victim's 15-year-old sister. Police have opened a case against the suspect under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 concerning these allegations.

Authorities have gathered statements from around 90 individuals, including teachers, fellow students, and family members, to piece together the events leading up to the student's death. The investigation is reportedly ongoing, and the public is urged to refrain from speculating in a manner that could impede the investigation.

The suspect is currently remanded for seven days until August 31 to facilitate further inquiries. The case initially began with a sudden death report (SDR) filed after the student's demise. Following a report from the victim's mother concerning alleged bullying, the district police initiated an investigation under Section 507B of the Penal Code, which deals with threatening, insulting, or annoying acts intended to cause emotional distress, fear, or agitation.
