Su Chiao-hui returns to Guangde Village for Huang Shu-chun's town hall; village chief who was target of 'Pigsy' joke appears to show support

New Taipei City mayoral candidate Su Chiao-hui is actively campaigning, recently attending a town hall in Banqiao hosted by city councilor Huang Shu-chun. Su used the event to address past controversies and highlight her policy priorities.

This is indeed the most promising opportunity in 20 years.

During the town hall, Su referenced a past "eighth term" (pigsy) pun she made about a local village chief, which had drawn criticism. She clarified her long-standing relationship with the chief and emphasized that the interaction was lighthearted. The village chief was present at the event and warmly welcomed Su, with attendees joking about him being the "most famous village chief in the country."

With just over 120 days until the election, Su acknowledged that while polls indicate she is leading her opponent, a significant portion of the electorate remains unaware of her candidacy. She appealed to supporters to spread the word and encourage friends and family to vote for the Democratic Progressive Party's "New Taipei team."

Su also defended her qualifications against critics who suggested she should return to being a kindergarten teacher. She cited her 10 years as a legislator, during which she secured infrastructure projects like the Fengming commuter station and various access roads. She pledged to accelerate the Banqiao Medical Park construction if elected and also focus on cultural education, including the ACGN industry. She highlighted her and Huang Shu-chun's combined "soft and hard" capabilities to serve the constituents.

Su urged supporters to not only help Huang Shu-chun win her council seat but also to maximize her vote count, framing it as a standard for "good councilors" and an encouragement for aspiring young politicians.
