Su Chiao-hui Secures NT$4.2 Million for Accessible Elevator in Yingge Community Center

In Yingge District, where community engagement is vibrant, the installation of an accessible elevator at the Jianshan Community Activity Center marks a significant step forward. Legislator Su Chiao-hui, also a candidate for New Taipei City mayor, has championed this initiative, securing NT$4.2 million in central government funding – over 90% of the total cost. This project directly addresses a pressing need voiced by local residents and community leaders, particularly the center's director, Chen Yi-chieh.

The community activity center has high usage rates, and the director reflected the need to improve equipment services for the elderly and those with mobility issues. I applied for 4.2 million in central government subsidies to install an elevator, accounting for over 90% of the total cost, making it no longer difficult to go upstairs and downstairs, and encouraging the elderly to participate more in the community and promote physical and mental health.

Previously, assisting elderly residents and those using wheelchairs to access the second floor, where many activities like dining and classes are held, required the effort of four volunteers. The new elevator eliminates this physical barrier, ensuring that all residents, regardless of mobility, can participate fully in community life. This aligns with Su's broader vision of creating a more inclusive and friendly living environment.

This elevator is not an isolated effort but part of a sustained commitment by Su and local councilors to enhance infrastructure in Yingge. Over the past decade, they have advocated for numerous improvements, including accessible elevators in schools and other community centers, restroom renovations, new covered sports courts, improved drainage systems, and school facility upgrades. The legislator also pointed to major infrastructure projects like the MRT San-Ying Line and the construction of Fengming Station, underscoring her dedication to Yingge's development and the promotion of its renowned craftsmanship.
