Su Meng-chun registers to run for Pingtung council seat, following sister into politics

Su Meng-chun, the son of former legislator Su Chen-ching, has registered to run for a seat on the Pingtung County Council, taking over the political baton from his sister, Su Meng-chieh.

Su registered on Sept. 3 with the county election commission as an independent candidate in Pingtung’s second electoral district. He previously stood in his father’s place in the 2024 legislative race for southern Pingtung, but was defeated.

After completing his registration, Su said a path on which he had worked for a long time had entered a new stage. He pledged to work harder each day, listen to local residents and seek their support through action.

Pingtung’s local election registration closes on Sept. 4. On the third day, one candidate had registered for county magistrate, along with 24 council candidates, 24 township and city mayor candidates, 122 township and city representative candidates, and 142 village and neighborhood chief candidates. The election commission’s final list will determine the official candidate roster.
