Sudden Weather Changes Expected in Lithuania After Hottest Week Day

Lithuania is bracing for a change in weather as a period of intense summer heat gives way to cooler temperatures and the possibility of thunderstorms. After experiencing the hottest days of the week, the forecast indicates a shift driven by atmospheric pressure systems.

According to the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMT), a departing anticyclone has allowed summer heat to persist, but a more humid cyclone moving in from the west is set to bring atmospheric fronts. This change means more rain clouds and potential thunderstorms, particularly in the western regions, with temperatures expected to drop from the highs of 28-33 degrees Celsius.

Although the probability that it will hit a person directly is very small, the danger is real. When an thunderstorm approaches and thunder is heard, for safety reasons, events should be temporarily stopped.

As the week progresses, temperatures will gradually decrease. Thursday and Friday are forecast to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms, with winds shifting. By the weekend, while still summery, temperatures will likely range between 19-25 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists are also issuing safety warnings, reminding the public about the dangers of lightning during thunderstorms. They noted an interesting statistic: men are statistically more likely to be struck by lightning, often due to engaging in riskier outdoor activities.

Interestingly, statistically, there is a higher probability (as many as 4 out of 5 cases) that lightning will strike a man. This is not due to biology, but to the behavior typical of men: it is they who are more likely to fish, do other farm work, and are simply more prone to risk.
