Suicide bombing near Pakistan police station kills at least 14

A suicide bombing near a police station in Pakistan's Swat district on Sunday killed at least 14 people and injured 20 others. The explosion occurred during a demonstration, according to local authorities.

The attacker attempted to enter the police station, located at a busy intersection, but was stopped by officers at the entrance. The man then detonated his explosive vest, police reported. Among the nine fatalities were four police officers, and seven of the injured are in critical condition.

The attack took place in Swat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region bordering Afghanistan that has experienced intensified insurgent activities in recent years. No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing to date.

Pakistan has recently faced an increase in attacks attributed to the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an insurgent organization that has been fighting against Islamabad's authorities since 2007 with the aim of imposing a regime based on a strict interpretation of Islamic law. In recent months, tensions in the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated, leading to more frequent confrontations between the two countries. In February, Pakistan launched airstrikes on Afghan territory, marking one of the most serious escalations of the conflict in recent years.
