Summer Heat Returns to Austria

Summer heat is returning to Austria after a week of changeable weather. According to forecasts from Geosphere Austria, temperatures could reach up to 32 degrees Celsius locally on Tuesday, with potential highs of 34 degrees by the weekend.

Showers are expected early in the week and sporadically in the following days. On Monday, the chance of showers will gradually decrease in the afternoon, with sunny spells likely in flatter regions. The south will experience partly sunny and partly cloudy conditions with isolated showers in the afternoon. Moderate to brisk north-westerly winds are expected in the north and east. Morning temperatures will range from 11 to 18 degrees, with daytime highs between 20 and 28 degrees.

Tuesday is expected to be largely sunny, though cloud fields will pass through due to a strong north-westerly flow. Showers are only possible in a few locations. Winds will generally be from the west to northwest, becoming brisk or strong from Upper Austria eastward to Burgenland. Morning temperatures will be around 12 to 21 degrees, with daytime highs reaching 25 to 32 degrees.

Midweek, Austria will be under a strong north-westerly flow, leading to a mix of sunshine and clouds. The west and south of the Alps will see more sun, while eastern areas and the eastern Alps will experience more clouds. Most areas will remain dry, with only isolated brief showers. North-westerly winds will be moderate to brisk, potentially strong at higher altitudes. Temperatures will rise from 14-22 degrees in the morning to 24-30 degrees during the day.

Thursday is predicted to be sunny and mostly dry due to weak high-pressure influence. Some clouds may appear in the northeast and eastern Alps with moderate to brisk north-westerly winds, but most areas will remain dry apart from local showers. Morning temperatures will be 11-18 degrees, with daytime highs of 25-32 degrees, warmest in the south and west. From Friday onwards, high-pressure influence will bring predominantly sunny skies across the country, with some cumulus clouds forming in the mountains and south around midday. Isolated, possibly thundery, showers will be exceptions in these regions.
