Supporters Gather at KL Court for Ex-PM Ismail Sabri's Corruption Charge

More than 100 supporters of former Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob began gathering at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex from as early as 7 a.m. The supporters, many of whom traveled from Bera, Pahang, are reportedly there to show solidarity as the former premier faces charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.

Ismail Sabri arrived at the complex at 8:32 a.m., accompanied by his family members. The Member of Parliament for Bera is scheduled to face charges under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009, concerning asset declaration. The proceedings were initially scheduled for August 7 but were postponed due to his hospitalization for a heart condition.

This legal challenge follows a significant seizure by the MACC, which reportedly confiscated RM170 million in various foreign currencies and 16 kilograms of pure gold bars, estimated to be worth RM7 million. These assets were allegedly found during searches of a residence and an office believed to be safe houses.

The investigation is reportedly linked to the detention of four senior officials who served under Ismail Sabri, arrested in February 2025. The court is expected to read the charges and take Ismail Sabri's plea today.
