Suspect arrested for tearing down Turkish flag claims 'nerve condition'

Police in Istanbul apprehended a suspect for tearing down and discarding a Turkish flag displayed on a business's exterior. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the Yeşilce neighborhood. Security forces identified the suspect as Cafer B. and detained him on the street. During questioning, Cafer B. stated, "Due to my nerve condition, I sometimes lose myself." However, police investigations found no medical reports to corroborate his claim. Records show Cafer B. has a history of 11 offenses, including facilitating gambling, theft, threats, intentional injury, and violating a law on the prevention of violence against women. He has previously served time in prison twice. His daughter, Rabia Gül B., mentioned that her father had been treated at a psychiatric hospital but that the family received no medical reports. She also stated that no family members are currently in contact with him. Cafer B. was transferred to the courthouse to face charges of "demeaning symbols of state sovereignty."
