Suspect Identified in Quito Animal Poisoning Case

Quito's Animal Welfare Unit (UBA) has identified a suspect in the alleged poisoning of multiple companion animals in the La Ecuatoriana neighborhood. The municipality's investigation culminated Thursday with the identification of the individual believed to be responsible for the acts of cruelty.

Following citizen reports of animals falling ill, UBA personnel intervened in the southern Quito neighborhood to gather evidence and initiate legal proceedings. The collected identification and personal data of the accused citizen are crucial for initiating the administrative sanctioning process under current urban regulations for animal abuse.

When approached by municipal officials, the suspect chose not to provide an immediate statement. She informed authorities that she would only offer her testimony regarding the animal poisoning once her lawyer is present.

The case gained public attention after UBA responded to citizen alerts and shared a video documenting the alleged incident on August 4. The UBA reiterated its commitment to combating animal cruelty and reminded the public that animal poisoning is considered a serious offense under municipal law, punishable by a fine of up to $4,820.
