Suspect in 2010 Marfin bombing ordered detained in Greece

A 46-year-old woman has been ordered to remain in pre-trial detention in Greece as she faces charges related to the 2010 bombing of the Marfin Bank building in Athens. The decision was made by an investigating judge with the prosecutor's agreement, following her testimony.

The woman, along with two other 42-year-old individuals arrested previously, is accused of serial joint homicide. She has pleaded not guilty, asserting that while she participated in the demonstration, she had no connection to the violent incidents that occurred. She claims to recognize her co-defendants only by sight from the anarchist movement.

I am innocent, I participated in the demonstration, but I have nothing to do with the incidents. I know my co-defendants by sight from the anarchist movement.

Her defense team submitted a lengthy statement to the investigating judge, outlining her arguments. They contend that the police's photographic analysis does not definitively identify her but rather shows "limited similarity support." Furthermore, they point out that the same evidence was examined in 2022, leading to the archiving of the investigation, and argue that reopening the case based on an anonymous email is inadmissible due to prior judicial decisions.

The defense has appointed an expert, G. Karathanasis, who concluded in a report that the digital evidence in the case file shows no differences compared to the evidence examined in 2022. The defense has also proposed two additional witnesses. The woman's sister testified as a defense witness earlier, stating she was with the accused during the protest.
