Suspect in Driver's Death Arrested in Jamaica

Jhovanny de Jesús Metz Cruz, known as "Macho," has been apprehended in Jamaica, identified as the primary suspect in the killing of driver Deivy Carlos Abreu Quezada. Abreu Quezada died after being attacked by a group of motorcyclists during a pursuit.

A source from the Attorney General's Office confirmed the arrest. Investigations suggest "Macho" allegedly inflicted multiple stab wounds on Abreu Quezada. The attack occurred on April 17 in the parking lot of the Palace of Justice in Santiago, where the victim sought refuge after being chased for several kilometers.

Initially, the chase was reported to stem from a traffic incident. Later reports indicated a possible financial debt between Abreu Quezada and his attackers as the motive. Details surrounding Metz Cruz's arrest in Jamaica remain undisclosed.

This is not Metz Cruz's only legal entanglement. He is also facing charges for a 2023 shooting that injured a National Police sergeant. He failed to appear for his trial on May 20, leading to a fugitive declaration and an order for his arrest. In that case, he is accused of attempted homicide and criminal association.

Dominican authorities will now pursue his extradition from Jamaica, a process likely to involve international cooperation through Interpol, as no formal extradition treaty exists between the two nations.
