Suspected hitwoman in Monaco oligarch attack found dead near Kyiv

A woman identified as the prime suspect in an assassination attempt on Ukrainian oligarch Vadym Yermolayev has been found dead near Kyiv. Sources within law enforcement told Ukrainska Pravda that the body was discovered buried outside the capital around 11 p.m. on July 6. The suspected perpetrator was reportedly shot dead.

The assassination attempt against Yermolayev, who faces Ukrainian sanctions for continuing business in Russian-occupied Crimea, took place in Monaco in late June. Interpol had issued a red notice for the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Anastasiya Berezovska, born in Ukraine on June 26, 1987. The notice stated she was wanted for attempted murder as part of an organized criminal group by placing an explosive device on a public road.

The body of the woman suspected of attempting to assassinate oligarch Vadym Yermolayev, who is under Ukrainian sanctions, was found on July 6 near Kyiv.

French media reported that Berezovska had been surveilling Yermolayev's family and home before planting and remotely detonating an explosive device outside his door as three people entered. The blast injured Yermolayev, his companion, who lost both legs, and his son, who sustained serious but stable injuries.

In connection with the incident, Ukrainian law enforcement has reportedly detained two individuals. One is an active officer from the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), Ukraine's military intelligence agency, and the other is a former law enforcement employee. The Monaco prosecutor's office had previously stated that the main suspect was a Ukrainian citizen.
