Suspected ISWAP collaborator arrested in Borno IDP camp

Troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended a suspected collaborator with the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram within an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Gwoza, Borno State.

The suspect was reportedly arrested on Friday at the Government Secondary School (GSS) IDP camp. According to an operational report, the individual was allegedly working with terrorists active in the Mandara Mountains. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect's mission was to persuade personnel of the hybrid forces to defect and join terrorist groups.

The alleged plan involved luring these defectors into an ambush, where they would be killed and their weapons confiscated. The report indicates the suspect had prior discussions with a Boko Haram commander in the mountainous region before his arrest.

Troops from the 26 Task Force Brigade are currently holding the suspect while further investigations proceed. Military authorities emphasized that this arrest underscores their continuous efforts to dismantle terrorist support networks and prevent the infiltration of local security structures in Nigeria's Northeast.
