Suspected narcotic drugs concealed in fertiliser sacks intercepted, 2 arrested

An intelligence-led police operation in Kumasi's Asawase Market has led to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected narcotic drugs. The operation, carried out on Monday, uncovered 100 compressed parcels of substances believed to be narcotics, hidden within fertiliser sacks beneath second-hand clothing.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command stated that the seizure represents another blow to the illicit drug trade in the region. The operation was initiated following credible information about suspected narcotic drugs being transported in fertiliser sacks. A team from the Manhyia District Police Command, supported by CID and Zongo Police personnel, swiftly moved to the market upon receiving the tip-off.

Osman Bassein, 37, and Mohammed Abdul Razak, 38, were arrested during the operation. A search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses led to the discovery of 13 fertiliser sacks. The police confirmed that the exhibits were photographed at the scene before being secured for forensic examination.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and will be processed according to law. The police command praised the public for providing timely and credible information and appealed for continued support in combating crime by reporting suspicious activities through emergency numbers. The command reiterated its commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations to disrupt criminal networks and ensure regional safety.
