Šutalo nearing Ajax exit, three clubs interested

Josip Šutalo's tenure at Ajax could be short-lived, as the Croatian international is reportedly attracting concrete interest from three clubs, potentially leading to his departure this summer. Ajax has set a price tag of around 15 million euros for the defender.

Among the interested parties, Benfica has reportedly made an offer, with at least one Premier League club also in the running. The identities of other interested clubs remain undisclosed.

Ajax acquired Šutalo from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2023 for a fixed fee of 20.5 million euros, with potential bonuses bringing the total to 23.5 million. His current contract with the Dutch club runs until 2028. A sale for 15 million euros would represent a loss of at least 5.5 million euros on the initial transfer fee alone.

Despite the potential financial setback, Ajax appears willing to consider the sale to ease budget pressures and make space in their defensive lineup. Šutalo's exit has been speculated for some time, with his salary reportedly being a factor. The club would gain funds and roster flexibility to sign a new center-back.

Sources close to the Croatian international suggest that a decision has been made, and Šutalo is expected to leave Amsterdam this summer. This move would allow Ajax to recoup some of their investment and reshape their defense.
