Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana Proposed as National Hero

Indonesia's Ministry of Social Affairs is actively supporting the process to bestow national hero status upon Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana (STA), a prominent non-military figure recognized for his contributions to cultural thought and literature.

This is being processed, many figures are present. Yes, the process will be forwarded. We will escort it until it reaches the Titles Council of the Ministry of Culture led by Mr. Fadli Zon.

The proposal, initiated by National University (UNAS), is currently undergoing review within the ministry and will be passed to other relevant bodies for deeper examination. Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf confirmed that STA's name is a priority for the hero title consideration process.

Saifullah emphasized STA's profound impact, noting his foundational work in education and his role in standardizing the modern Indonesian language. He stated that STA's heroism lies not in physical combat, but in his significant intellectual and cultural contributions, which merit national recognition.

The essence of STA's heroism is immense because although he did not fight physically on the battlefield, the late Mr. made a great contribution in pioneering the world of education and encouraging the standardization of modern Indonesian language.

The ministry views the proposal as an opportunity to honor national figures whose impactful work may have previously been overlooked. President Prabowo Subianto has reportedly encouraged the public to nominate inspirational figures who have made substantial contributions outside of direct public service or military action.

I hope that through the existing process, Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana can become one of the national heroes designated by Mr. President Prabowo.
