Swedish union ends three-year strike against Tesla

The powerful Swedish metalworkers' union IF Metall has called off a three-year strike against electric vehicle maker Tesla. The union announced Thursday that it will officially end the labor dispute next Wednesday.

IF Metall accused Tesla of pushing striking workers to leave their jobs in exchange for financial compensation, effectively ending the conflict. "We can see that Tesla is so against collective agreements that it prefers to compensate union members rather than give them secure conditions," IF Metall stated in a release. The union called the company's actions unprecedented in the Swedish labor market and cited systematic violations of the strike.

The strike began in October 2023 after Tesla refused to sign a collective agreement for its workers in Sweden, despite years of negotiations. Tesla does not operate factories in Sweden but maintains several service centers and workshops in the country. Other Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish unions had previously declared solidarity measures.
