Swimming banned in parts of Istanbul on August 1-2 due to high waves

Residents and visitors planning to enjoy the sea in Istanbul this weekend face disappointment as authorities have banned swimming in several coastal areas. Due to strong northeastern winds expected to affect the Marmara region, adverse weather conditions, including high waves, have prompted the closure of beaches in two key districts.

Specifically, swimming has been prohibited in Istanbul's Beykoz and Arnavutköy districts for Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, 2026. The Beykoz District Governorate issued a notice stating that swimming is forbidden on the coastlines, beaches, and bays facing the Black Sea within the district's borders due to the significant wave height.

Similarly, the Arnavutköy District Governorate announced the same restrictions for its coastal areas. The decision was made based on meteorological warnings forecasting strong winds and consequently high waves, making sea entry unsafe for the public.

The bans are a precautionary measure to ensure public safety amidst the challenging weather conditions. Authorities are advising the public to adhere to these restrictions to avoid any potential accidents or incidents at sea.
