Swiss Olympic champion Gut-Behrami ends career

Swiss alpine skiing star Lara Gut-Behrami has announced the immediate end of her distinguished career at the age of 35. The decision comes after a severe knee injury sustained in a training crash in November 2025, which had cast doubt over her planned farewell season.

Gut-Behrami, an Olympic gold medalist in the Super-G at the 2022 Beijing Games, had previously declared the past winter as her final competitive season. However, the serious knee injury, involving a torn cruciate ligament, medial ligament, and meniscus, led her to reassess her timeline.

Throughout her career, Gut-Behrami amassed an impressive collection of titles. She secured Olympic gold in the Super-G in Beijing and became a double world champion in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 2021, winning both the Super-G and giant slalom events. She also claimed the overall World Cup title twice, in the 2015/16 and 2023/24 seasons, alongside seven smaller crystal globes. Her dominance in the Super-G was particularly notable, as she won the discipline's World Cup standings an unparalleled six times. In total, she achieved 48 World Cup victories, along with seven World Championship bronze medals and two Olympic bronze medals.
