Syed Azman, Ayob Khan Honored as National Personalities at Maulidur Rasul Celebration

Tan Sri Dr. Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim, the driving force behind Weststar Group, received the prestigious National Maulidur Rasul Personality of the Year 2026 award. The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, presented the honor at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang.

Syed Azman, widely recognized as Malaysia's 'Helicopter King' due to Weststar's extensive helicopter operations in the oil and gas sector, expressed his disbelief and deep appreciation for the recognition. Weststar's fleet of over 40 helicopters has cemented its position as a leading support provider in the Asia-Pacific region. Despite his corporate success, Syed Azman maintains a humble demeanor, a trait attributed to his military background emphasizing discretion and strategic operations.

Also honored was Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, recipient of the National Hero award. Ayob Khan stated his intention to remain active in contributing to society, whether through NGOs, companies, or writing, noting his interest in sharing his past operational experiences through future books. He considered the award a recognition not just for himself but for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and their collective contributions.

Maulana Abdul Hamid Chin received the Madani Woman Personality award. He viewed the recognition from the Malaysian government and Jakim as a significant morale boost for his continued da'wah (Islamic propagation) efforts. He emphasized the importance of this work in combating ignorance and apostasy within the Muslim community.
