Syria visit: Eide impressed by progress

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus, engaging in discussions about the nation's progress toward building a new, inclusive Syria. The meeting, which also included Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, focused on the advancements achieved since the fall of the Assad regime.

Eide shared his impressions on the social platform X, stating, "In Damascus today, President Ahmed al-Sharaa and I reflected on the progress made in the work to build a new, inclusive Syria." He added, "Although challenges remain, I am impressed by the progress made. Norway is proud to support this."

This visit represents Eide's second engagement in Syria following the Assad regime's collapse. The trip underscores Norway's continued involvement and support for stabilization efforts in the region.
