Tabung Haji launches hygiene programs for Malaysian pilgrims in Mecca

Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has initiated comprehensive hygiene programs for Malaysian haj pilgrims in Mecca, focusing on both accommodation buildings and the Masyair areas. These efforts aim to reinforce a culture of cleanliness among pilgrims and staff throughout the annual pilgrimage.

This program will instill a shared sense of responsibility that cleanliness is part of a Muslim's worship and character.

Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), highlighted that the program, implemented since 2017, has received recognition from the Saudi Arabian government. He stated that the initiative serves as added value for Malaysian pilgrims, enhancing the cleanliness standards of the annual operations in the holy land.

Hasan emphasized that the programs reflect TH's continuous commitment to pilgrims' welfare, comfort, and well-being, particularly concerning hygiene, health, and environmental comfort during the haj season. He noted that maintaining cleanliness is not just a health requirement but also a manifestation of Islamic ethics and respect for being guests of Allah.

Haj pilgrimage is not just a journey to the Kaaba, but a journey to educate the heart to be more civilized towards humans and the environment.

The initiatives align with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which prioritizes improving hygiene and environmental management standards in the holy sites. In Mecca, the focus includes guest rooms, public spaces, prayer areas, and waste management. For Masyair (Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina), the program emphasizes systematic waste management, tent cleanliness, pedestrian pathways, food waste reduction, and mindful use of facilities, especially crucial given the high density of pilgrims and hot weather conditions.
