Tabung Haji RCI Should Be a Lesson for All Parties

The critical recovery of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) in 2018 was a pivotal moment in restoring the integrity of the Islamic pilgrimage fund, according to PKR Secretary Datuk Dr. Fuziah Salleh. She stressed that merely recovering from past issues is insufficient; the institution must learn from its mistakes to ensure they are not repeated.

"Tabung Haji was built on the trust of Muslims; such a great trust can only be maintained through good governance, transparency, and accountability," Salleh stated. She welcomed the Prime Minister's stance that any party responsible for losses or legal violations should be investigated, with legal action taken if sufficient evidence exists.

Salleh, who previously served as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) from 2018 to 2020, highlighted that ensuring TH's recovery was a priority during her tenure. This was essential to protect depositors' savings and rebuild public confidence.

The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report revealed that TH's problems stemmed from weak governance, imprudent investment decisions, poor financial management, and failure to comply with legal provisions, leading to a deficit between assets and liabilities since 2014. Salleh expressed hope that all RCI recommendations would be implemented to ensure the institution's continued strength for future generations.
