Taichung Mayoral Candidate Chiang Chi-chen Launches Campaign Website; Dodges Food Safety Questions

Kuomintang candidate for Taichung mayor, Chiang Chi-chen, unveiled his campaign website, "Taichung Way," aiming to connect with the city's nearly 3 million residents. The website, which Chiang described as embodying the unique style and spirit of Taichung, draws inspiration from his "Chiang Chiang Food Channel," highlighting local industries, artisans, traditional crafts, and new technologies.

Following the website launch, reporters pressed Chiang on pressing food safety issues, specifically referencing the Zhonglian carcinogenic oil scandal and the perceived buck-passing between central and local governments. Chiang excused himself and his guests, stating he was late for another engagement at the Taichung Water湳 Transfer Center inauguration ceremony.

Addressing the food safety concerns, Chiang acknowledged their importance to the public. He stressed that government oversight must be rigorous and regulations improved. "Food safety cannot be ambiguous or compromised," he stated, adding that governance must be constantly enhanced, especially in today's diverse food landscape. He emphasized that ensuring citizens can eat safely is a shared goal requiring unwavering attention.
