Taichung woman's month-long worry over unpaid taxi fare resolved with driver's understanding

A 73-year-old woman in Taichung, Taiwan, experienced a month of anxiety after an incident where she forgot to pay her taxi fare. The situation arose when she fell, fracturing her hand, and rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

In the ensuing confusion and pain, she boarded a taxi to another hospital but, due to heavy traffic and her urgent need for medical attention, she got out and walked the rest of the way. It was only later that she realized she had not paid the driver, a detail that weighed heavily on her mind for the entire month.

Driven by her conscience, the woman eventually turned to the police for help. Officers from the Qinkong Police Station accompanied her, and by reviewing hospital surveillance footage and vehicle details, they successfully identified the taxi and its driver.

When contacted, the driver was surprised to learn the reason for the call. Understanding that the oversight was due to her injury and the urgency of her medical needs, he expressed empathy. Moved by the woman's persistent concern over the fare, the driver graciously refused to accept the payment, wishing her a speedy recovery. This act of goodwill and honesty brought a warm conclusion to the incident.
