The statement, shared online and framed by some media as "Tainan residents angrily confirm '40 years without seeing a cleaned drain,'" has drawn significant attention and skepticism.

Many netizens found the claim of four to five decades without any drain cleaning to be exaggerated. Some sarcastically questioned if this meant no cleaning had occurred since the Kuomintang's rule, while others suggested the resident might have been unaware of maintenance activities. One commenter humorously invoked former President Chiang Ching-kuo, joking that he might want to have a word with the resident.
