Truck Overturns on Taiwan Highway, Causing Three-Vehicle Pileup and Two Injuries

A multi-vehicle accident on National Highway 1 in Hukou, Taiwan, blocked all northbound lanes early Tuesday morning after a semi-trailer truck overturned. Police reported that the 50-year-year-old driver of the truck, identified only as Wang, was driving in the outer lane when he allegedly lost focus and rear-ended a vehicle ahead. The truck then veered into the inner lane, struck the median barrier, and overturned, completely obstructing all lanes. A second semi-trailer truck, driven by Fu, was unable to avoid the overturned vehicle and collided with it. A third truck, driven by Chen, was also involved. The collision resulted in minor abrasions and bruises for drivers Wang and Fu, who were taken to Taoyuan Tiancheng Hospital for treatment. Chen was uninjured. All drivers tested negative for alcohol. Authorities cleared the scene and reopened the highway around 7 a.m. The cause of the accident is under investigation, though preliminary findings suggest driver fatigue may have been a factor. Highway police urged drivers to adhere to traffic regulations, maintain safe distances, and avoid distracted or fatigued driving, recommending rest stops for drivers feeling tired.
