Tainan Gathers Local Input for Shanhua Railway Elevation Project

Tainan's Shanhua district is actively gathering local feedback for a proposed railway elevated project, with the goal of submitting the feasibility study to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications by the end of the year. The project aims to improve transportation and spur local development.

During a public hearing on July 21, residents voiced numerous suggestions. Key proposals included merging the Nanke and Shanhua train stations into a single station near Mujiuliuwan Boulevard, increasing the number of express train stops, and enhancing Shanhua Station's role as a central transport hub for central Tainan. Concerns were also raised about potential traffic congestion during the construction phase.

City officials stated that public suggestions will be incorporated into the planning. The 3.3-kilometer elevated railway will run from north of the Lingzilin level crossing to south of the Mujiaoliuwan overpass. The project plans to eliminate three level crossings and dismantle the Guangwen and Dacheng overpasses. Shanhua Station will be elevated in its current location, with consideration given to a future metro line station nearby. The estimated cost is NT$13.148 billion.

Temporary traffic disruptions are anticipated, particularly during the demolition of the Dacheng overpass, which will require detours. The Guangwen overpass construction will follow the completion of the elevated railway. Residents can submit further written feedback until July 30.
