Tainan’s Southern Taiwan Science Park expansion could add 4,000 residents in Anding

A proposed 49-hectare expansion in Anding, Tainan, could add housing, shops and space for about 4,000 people as the Southern Taiwan Science Park continues to grow.

The Tainan city government recently sent the Anding urban development plan to Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior urban planning committee for further review. About 30 hectares would become residential and neighborhood commercial land. The project area lies in an agricultural zone near Anding Junior High School.

Public facilities would cover about 8 hectares and include parks, a park combined with a flood-retention pond, parking areas and government-use land. Commercial space would sit near major roads and parking facilities, while the residential areas would help meet housing demand around the science park.

Anding’s current development is concentrated around the Gangkou Cian’an Temple area. Market data cited in the report puts the area’s average transaction price over the past year at about NT$255,400 per ping, with prices down roughly 14%. About eight new developments are currently selling there. Basic services are available near the temple, while residents must travel to other areas for larger purchases.

The plan would extend roads linking Provincial Route 178, South 132, the Zengwen River levee road and the Anding Interchange. It also includes a multipurpose community activity center intended to supplement public services in Anding and Anjia villages. If the project proceeds, housing, commercial facilities and public infrastructure would expand beyond the existing settlements.
