Taipei student hid newborn's body at home; investigation launched

A 19-year-old university student in Taipei is under investigation after allegedly concealing the birth and death of her newborn son at her home.

The incident came to light when the student's family noticed a foul odor emanating from her room. Upon inquiry, the student revealed that she had given birth to a baby boy six days prior, who was reportedly stillborn. Fearing her family's reaction, she had wrapped the infant's body in a towel and hidden it in her room.

Responding to the family's report, police and forensic teams examined the infant's body. Preliminary findings suggest the baby showed no obvious external injuries, and homicide has been initially ruled out. The body has been preserved for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The student, who was reportedly living at home during her summer break, has been listed as a defendant in the case. She faces potential charges related to the incident, as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the baby's death.
