Taipei Veterans General Hospital Director Chen Wei-ming has voiced outrage, revealing that he has been impersonated in over a hundred instances. He decries these schemes as not merely financial fraud but as life-threatening endeavors, particularly concerning given the potential for patients to ingest dangerous or ineffective substances. Director Chen expressed deep sorrow over recent cases where patients, misled by advertisements, purchased medications based on false claims and even brought receipts to the hospital for verification. He urged the public to remain vigilant and to bravely pursue legal action against perpetrators. In response, the Shilin District Prosecutors Office has proactively launched an investigation, assigning specialized prosecutors to combat these scams and protect public health and safety. The office emphasized its commitment to rigorously prosecuting those who exploit medical authority to endanger citizens, thereby safeguarding the integrity of the medical system and social order. They also reminded the public to be wary of products advertised with miraculous effects and to report any suspected fraudulent activities to the authorities immediately.
