Taiwan Braces for Heavy Rain Before Sunny Spell; Tropical Disturbance Monitored

Taiwan can expect localized heavy rainfall in its central and northern regions on Monday, as a southern cloud system moves northward. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) forecasts potential for significant downpours, particularly in Taitung, the Hengchun Peninsula, and mountainous areas of central and northern Taiwan.

While southern areas and Taitung may experience intermittent showers and thunderstorms, the rest of the island will be partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Forecaster Tseng Chao-cheng noted that Tuesday will see a gradual decrease in rainfall, though moisture levels will remain high. Showers will become isolated in eastern and southern Taiwan, while central and northern areas will be partly cloudy with afternoon thunderstorms, mainly confined to mountainous regions.

The weather outlook for Wednesday through next Sunday indicates a significant improvement, with predominantly sunny skies across the island. Afternoon showers are expected to be limited to mountainous areas. Temperatures will remain high, with daytime highs generally reaching 32 to 35 degrees Celsius. In areas with less rain, temperatures could exceed 36 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, a tropical disturbance is developing east of Guam. Current forecasts suggest it will move towards Japan or the waters east of Japan, with no direct impact anticipated for Taiwan. However, the CWA will continue to monitor its development.
