Taiwan braces for sunny skies and 32°C heat, with a cold front arriving next week

Good news for weather watchers: Taiwan is set for a pleasant stretch of sunny skies and warm temperatures starting this weekend. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) forecasts mostly clear to sunny conditions from Friday, April 26th, through Monday, April 29th, with daytime highs in the central and southern parts of the island potentially hitting a comfortable 32°C.

Tomorrow the weather will clear up! Central and southern regions will hit 32 degrees Celsius, the timing of the next front is exposed.

This welcome respite from recent rain is attributed to a weakening northeast monsoon. However, the fair weather won't last indefinitely. By Tuesday, April 30th, moisture levels are expected to increase along the windward eastern coast, bringing localized showers to eastern and southern areas. The real shift comes mid-week, as a cold front is predicted to move through on Wednesday, April 30th, followed by a cloud system from mainland China. This combination will usher in widespread rain and a noticeable drop in temperatures, particularly affecting the north and east, which will feel cooler.

Forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan detailed the temperature fluctuations, noting that while mornings may still be cool, daytime warmth will build significantly. Northern and eastern regions can expect highs between 25-28°C initially, climbing to 31-33°C by early next week, while central and southern areas will enjoy the warmest conditions. The transition on Wednesday will see daytime temperatures around 30°C before the cooling trend sets in, with highs dropping to 25-26°C in the north and east, and 29-30°C in the central and south by Thursday.

Tomorrow morning before dawn, there are still scattered showers everywhere. Starting in the daytime, the moisture will decrease, so from tomorrow daytime until next Monday, most areas will be cloudy to sunny.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to stabilize again by Friday, May 2nd, and Saturday, May 3rd, with a return to mostly sunny skies and comfortable temperatures. The CWA also issued advisories regarding potential low clouds and fog affecting visibility in Matsu from Monday night to Wednesday morning, and the possibility of "Föhn" winds (warm, dry downslope winds) in southeastern Taiwan before the cold front arrives on Wednesday.
