Taiwan High Speed Rail Unveils New Generation N700ST Train

Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) is set to welcome its first new-generation N700ST train, which officially rolled out from the factory in Japan on July 30. This marks a significant fleet upgrade, with the first train scheduled to arrive in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on August 15 for extensive testing.

THSR has ordered a total of 12 N700ST trains from the Hitachi-Toshiba consortium, with subsequent deliveries planned for next year and the year after. The N700ST is modeled after Japan's latest Shinkansen, the N700S, and has been customized to meet Taiwan's specific requirements. It boasts a lightweight, high-performance, and energy-efficient design, promising a more comfortable travel experience for passengers.

Inside, the N700ST features modern amenities such as full-color LCD information displays, illuminated arrival indicators, dual-level luggage racks, and ergonomically designed seats with charging capabilities. Significant improvements have also been made to noise and vibration reduction, enhancing overall passenger comfort.

Catering to diverse passenger needs, the new trains include enhanced family-friendly facilities. Nursing rooms are equipped with sinks, coat hooks, and baby seats, while regular restrooms feature changing tables or baby seats. The number of wheelchair spaces has also been increased to six, complete with securing devices.

The exterior design of the N700ST retains the striking orange and black color scheme of the current 700T model but features refined body curves. The front of the train is predominantly white, with parallel orange and black curves extending along the sides, creating a sleek, streamlined appearance that emphasizes speed. The interior design of the standard cars uses a geometric pattern in the existing color palette, complemented by gray and silver walls for a vibrant feel. Business class cars offer a more subdued aesthetic with beige and gold accents and a black, white, and gray patterned carpet for a sophisticated ambiance.
