Taiwan-Japan Fruit Festival Opens in Kaohsiung, Showcases Japanese Produce and Culture

Kaohsiung, Taiwan – The 2026 Taiwan-Japan Port Fruit Festival has officially opened at the Kaohsiung Music Center's Sea Breeze Plaza, celebrating agricultural exchange and cultural ties between Taiwan and Japan. The event was jointly inaugurated by Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai and Katayama Kazuyuki, Representative of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association's Taipei Office. The festival showcases a diverse range of local products and cultural features from several Japanese cities, including Niigata Prefecture's Sado City, Aomori Prefecture's Mutsu City, and others. Mayor Chen emphasized the deep cooperation between Taiwan and Japan, not only in trade, agriculture, and education but also in mutual support during difficult times. He highlighted Kaohsiung's commitment to assisting Kumamoto, a key partner, in its post-disaster recovery efforts. "Kaohsiung's unwavering support for Kumamoto is a testament to our strong bond," Chen stated. Representative Katayama, in turn, invited attendees to explore the Japanese city booths and learn about their cultures while enjoying the fruits and delicacies. He expressed gratitude for the swift concern and support from Taiwan and the Kaohsiung city government following the Kumamoto earthquake. A special "Support Kumamoto" booth allows visitors to leave messages of encouragement for the region, symbolizing the warmth of Kaohsiung's solidarity. The festival also features musical performances by Taiwanese bands like Fire EX. and Mango Jump, alongside Japanese band Guiba, and pop-up shops offering popular Japanese treats and collectibles. The event aims to provide an engaging experience for both international visitors and local residents to savor Taiwanese and Japanese fruits and experience the charm of the summer harbor.
