Keelung Temple Holds Procession to Pray for Peace and Disaster Relief

Keelung's Ciyun Temple, a historic site with 150 years of history, bustled with activity on the 19th day of the lunar month, celebrating Guanyin Bodhisattva's enlightenment. The temple, known as Keelung's "Buddha's Ridge," organized a grand procession to ward off misfortune and bring blessings to the community.

From early morning, devotees flocked to the temple, which prepared traditional offerings like oil rice and rice noodles to share. The afternoon procession began at Ciyun Temple, winding through significant landmarks including the City God Temple, Qing'an Palace, Dianji Palace, Keelung City Hall, and the Ren'ai Market before returning. This巡境 (xúnjìng), or巡游 (xúnyóu), is a ritual where deities are paraded through the streets to bless the area.

Vice Mayor Chiu Pei-ling participated in the event, assisting in distributing the blessed food. She observed the enthusiastic public response and the high demand for the "peace oil rice," underscoring the deep significance of faith for local residents and its power to foster unity. Chiu praised Ciyun Temple for its enduring commitment to compassion and service, noting its contributions to religious culture and its collaboration with the city government in caring for citizens.
