Taiwan Legislature to Convene Early Ahead of Typhoon Sadeer, Unmanned Vehicle Bill on Agenda

Taiwan's Legislative Yuan will convene an early session on October 27 to deliberate on the "Autonomous Defense Unmanned Vehicle Procurement Special Statute," originally scheduled for later in the week. The decision to advance the session was made during a cross-party consultation on October 26, presided over by Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu.

This early convening is a precautionary measure in anticipation of Typhoon Sadeer, which is forecast to approach Taiwan on Friday, October 28. The accelerated schedule aims to allow government officials and legislators to focus on disaster prevention and relief efforts without interruption.

This week, the southern part of the country has experienced continuous heavy rainfall, causing severe damage. Everyone is working hard on disaster assessment and relief.

Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu noted the severe rainfall and damage in southern Taiwan in recent days, emphasizing the ongoing rescue and relief operations. He proposed the earlier session to ensure that essential legislative matters, including the unmanned vehicle statute, could be addressed before the potential impact of the typhoon.

The proposal was agreed upon by all party caucuses, with the session set to begin at 9 a.m. and the unmanned vehicle statute expected to undergo a vote around 10 a.m. the following day. Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng was also present at the consultation.
