Taiwan Minister Inspects Tainan Railway Undergrounding Project, Eyes Early Opening

Taiwan's Minister of Transportation and Communications, Chen Shih-kai, visited the Tainan railway undergrounding project site on August 21 to assess progress. He urged the project team to complete the final stages swiftly, prioritizing quality and safety, with the goal of opening the line ahead of schedule.

We hope that while ensuring engineering quality and safety, the final finishing and operational preparations can be completed as soon as possible, so that it can be opened early to serve citizens.

The Tainan railway undergrounding project, a long-standing initiative, has overcome challenges such as limited land availability and the relocation of cultural heritage sites. The first phase, involving the undergrounding of the railway and the Tainan Station section, is now in its final stretch.

According to Railway Bureau Director Yang Cheng-chun, crucial pre-operation procedures for Tainan Station are nearly complete. These include passing accessibility and fire safety inspections, and obtaining special building permits. The pre-operation inspection is slated for September. The project is currently in its final phase, with necessary tests, checks, and operational preparations underway to ensure readiness for service.
