Taiwan People's Party nominates six for Taichung council, key candidate withdraws

The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) has finalized nominations for six seats in the upcoming Taichung City Council elections. However, a key decision has been made regarding the Central-West District, with central committee member Hsu Jui-hung announcing he will not seek the nomination.

Hsu cited the limited time remaining until the elections, scheduled for November 28, as the primary reason for his decision. He formally expressed his stance to TPP Secretary-General Chou Yu-hsiu during the party's 7th-anniversary celebration in Taichung on August 2.

The TPP had hoped Hsu would contest the Central-West District, considered a challenging constituency. Taichung TPP Chairman Chen Ching-lung stated that the party respects Hsu's decision, acknowledging the difficulty of the district.

With Hsu's withdrawal, the race for the Central-West District council seats is expected to include incumbent Democratic Progressive Party councilors Chiang Chao-kuo and Huang Shou-ta, as well as Kuomintang candidate Chang Yen-tung. The TPP remains committed to its goal of increasing its representation in Taichung, aiming to secure at least three seats to form a party caucus.
